Dear Ramallah Family:
The thought process behind the design of the 2012 Ramallah Convention logo takes us back to our roots, as explained by lead designer Jason Anwar Farmand, and Christie Johnny Bateh. We hope this unique design will continue to be part of our future conventions.
The defining aspect of the logo is the lion — a strong symbol of Ramallah, past and present. We wanted a bold, striking and stoic lion face to represent the strength of the Ramallah people. The pentagon behind the logo represents the five founding families of Ramallah.
The stylized shape of the lion’s head also represents a blooming flower, which symbolizes life, prosperity, success, rebirth, spring — all important life themes for people of Ramallah both in Palestine and the United States.
While other convention logos have been city-specific or symbolic of the olive branch, the convention is about celebrating our Ramallah roots. We are hoping this mark is well received enough to become the official logo for future conventions as well, which would give the event a strong brand and a feeling of continuity, regardless of the host city.
The colors are an obvious nod to the colors of our Palestinian flag — recognizable both in the Arab world and beyond.
